My Journey into Design

Breaking into the design world while working full-time is no easy feat. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed juggling deadlines, learning new skills, and trying to stay motivated, trust me—you’re not alone. I’ve been there too. In this blog, I want to share my design journey, the challenges I faced, and how I found a way to balance work, learning, and personal growth. If you want to transition into design while managing a busy schedule, this is for you.

How It All Started

I didn’t start my career in design. In fact, my background is Mathematics for Bsc, and I worked as a Secretary in an Oil and Gas company, but I always had an interest in creativity, problem-solving, and technology. The turning point came when I realized how much I loved user experience and design thinking. I decided to leap and started learning UI/UX design while keeping up with my full-time job.

The Challenges I Faced

The transition wasn’t easy. Here are some of the biggest hurdles I encountered:

  • Time Management: Finding time to learn while working 60+ hours a week was tough.

  • Information Overload: With so many resources available, I didn’t know where to start.

  • Imposter Syndrome: I often felt like I wasn’t good enough or that I didn’t belong in the design space.

  • Staying Consistent: Some days, I was too tired to study or practice design after work.

How I Overcame These Challenges

Through trial and error, I found strategies that helped me stay on track. Here’s what worked for me:

  • Creating a Learning Schedule: I dedicated specific time slots for learning—before work, during lunch breaks, or late at night ( Mostly late at night).

  • Focusing on the Right Resources: Instead of trying to learn everything at once, I followed structured courses and tutorials (started with the Google Coursera course)

  • Building a Support System: I joined design communities, followed industry leaders, and connected with fellow learners for motivation.

  • Small Daily Progress: Even 30 minutes a day adds up over time.
